One of the ways West
Wiltshire Interfaith Group promotes interaction between different communities
is through organising Women only lunches.
Muslim women in
particular find it difficult to mix socially in mixed company, especially if
they are not accompanied by their husband or another close male relative; these
lunches provide opportunities for them to meet socially and maybe to attend
talks by women speakers about things of interest within the community.
The women only lunches
are open to all communities. We have welcomed women recently from Bangladesh,
Turkey, Morocco, India as well as long-term British at these lunches.
The women lunches not
only meet our main objective of bringing communities from different faiths and
cultures together to improve integration. It also helps remove the feeling of
isolation felt by many BME communities. Also we arrange talks to provide
information to women on matters concerning Health, CAB, Police and the working
of local government.
We acknowledge the support
and assistance provided by The Trinity Parish Church in organising Women only
lunches.
